I need some relationship advice...?

I am friends with two people who are in a serious relationship, like as in engaged. But the thing is they fight and break up all the time and the big issue is I like the guy and he recently told me that if he wasn't with her and in love with her that it would be me. Now, I really like him and always have but shes my close friend...what should I do?
