I'm thinking he won't ask because hes intimidated..help?

In my class I have a lot of guy friends, my style is tomboy with a hint of girl in it. I wear nice clothes and jewellery and have modern things which people are jealous of as I've heard them talking. The guy who likes me and I like him is a flirt around girls and easily talks to girl but since hes gotten to know me (weve been talking online - I initiate the conversations) since he knows me better hes gotten all shy around me so if I talk to him he will look at me and look like hes lost lol and ask me to repeat the question, but if were in say a casual setting around few friends like at the uni open day we went too he made effort to talk to me but he couldn't look into my eyes and he'd always listen into my conversations with the staff or my friends and he would look at me alot. But in class its different because everyone stares at me and my friends have noticed I've became more confident a little because I know the guy is watching but mainly because I've been depressed over my nan who just died and not having anyone else who loves so I've been crying everyday being quite pensive so the confidence is to hide my sadness really.. Anyway I'm thinking he maybe shy because of all I've said.. and when he sees me looking he looks back but then when I'm near he panics in nervousness and scoots off (like if I'm standing next to him or looking at him alot)
